private school for theater, film, and musical theater

CSTC GÉRARD PHILIPE

The advantages and unique features of the Cours Gérard Philipe – CSTC, a school unlike any other in France—or even abroad:
– students are introduced to a professional talent agency as early as the preparatory program and receive training for auditions and demo reels (unique in France!)
– trained to launch their professional careers (freelance status, starting a theater company, grants, etc.)

– The only school where students perform in at least 5 different full-scale public shows/performances each year, and often as many as 8 (5 to 12 performances per year)
– multidisciplinary, covering all performing arts, musical theater, and film
– recognized as being in the public interest (only 2 such schools in France)
– Combines practical training with in-depth theory and research on current topics
– Preparatory courses available if needed to bring students up to speed, including 3 to 5 performances plus classes in acting for the camera and film directing
– Professional internships: a minimum of 60 hours in the second year and 100 hours in the third year, in addition to summer internships
– A week-long exchange program with another school or conservatory (Royal Conservatory of Brussels, etc.)
– Class sizes kept reasonable to allow for hands-on work on set (maximum 12 students per class)
– A school integrated into the Grasse Campus university campus, allowing students to benefit from facilities, great deals, and opportunities for a rich student social life
– The option to take classes as an independent student (without needing a high school diploma, but still subject to an audition—except for the preparatory program—to best guide students based on their theater level), with a certificate of studies awarded
– in the South-PACA region near Cannes and Nice, cities known for their film industries (the Cannes Film Festival, MipTV, Cinéroman in Nice, and the Victorine Studios), where the cost of living is lower than in Paris and where the film and performing arts industries are the 2nd and third-largest employers in the region (ranking only eighth and thirteenth in Paris, which offers proportionally fewer opportunities)!

A MESSAGE FROM THE ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

"You aren't born an artist—you become one."

If I may paraphrase Simone de Beauvoir, I would say that one is not born an artist—one becomes one.

Even though some people are naturally gifted and able to put their “talent” to use very quickly, art is something that can be learned. Mastery and virtuosity can be acquired. And that is precisely where we come in: identifying potential and helping it flourish is our guiding principle.

That’s why we give everyone a chance, regardless of their background, life experiences, identities, or social circumstances. We welcome everyone, as long as they’re adventurous and motivated.

Training the artists of tomorrow also means instilling in them a love of hard work and perseverance, a keen sense of observation and reflection, an appreciation of the arts, and a knowledge of the artistic world.

We artists—those of us who create in the performing and audiovisual arts, as well as actors and performers—what are we without determination and hard work?

With rigor and kindness, we strive to pass on our knowledge to our students so that they may become well-rounded and independent artists.

To achieve this, we are constantly reinventing ourselves and keeping an open mind to different possibilities and new artistic creations. We are convinced that it is through diversity and mutual inspiration that the most daring works are born.

And since we are well aware that every artist is unique, we take care to respect their individuality, to keep their freshness and enthusiasm intact, and, of course, to ensure that they never lose sight of the passion that drives them and inspires them to make others dream…
