The Grasse Institute of Perfumery offers an international program taught entirely in English that leads to a professional certification.
The 12 students selected come from around the world and are chosen for their olfactory skills and creativity.
The program lasts 18 months, including a 6-month internship.
With more than 2,500 students representing 80 different nationalities—whom it has welcomed for over 20 years—the Grasse Institute of Perfumery showcases the art of perfumery and its hometown of Grasse to people eager to learn.
The GIP training program develops trainees’ fundamental knowledge and teaches them to create and evaluate fragrances by combining traditional and modern techniques through the following steps:
– Understanding raw materials and how to use them correctly, particularly the natural ingredients for which Grasse is renowned
– Learning the language of perfumery and knowing how to classify and recognize the major fragrance families;
– Discovering and learning to create accords, the essence of the art of composition
– Practicing the subtle art of blending.
Other fundamental disciplines for the work of perfumers and creative evaluators are also covered.
The program includes: the study of international regulations governing fragrances and cosmetics, analytical techniques (gas chromatography and mass spectrometry), and personal care products (shampoos,
shower gels, creams, etc.).
